New Catalog is LIVE today!

( There are 2 posts today.  Make sure you read both)

Happy New Year!  Other than my family, Stampin' Up! is the biggest part of my life.  So, in that part of my life, today is New Year's Day!  The new catalog is live today.  Click on the catalog at the right to be taken to bliss :)
I have literally been trying to post this for a week.  Summer has started, but summer camp hasn't.  Right now my daughter is banging on her door and my son has a friend over to play.  I cannot catch a minute to myself right now.  My husband is getting back from being in CA all week this evening so it's been a crazy week.  Went by really quickly!
June 1st is my Mystery Hostess event!  Just as clarification, there is no instruction that goes along with this event.  It's just an opportunity for you to order stuff from the new catalog in hopes of getting  drawn out of the hat to receive the hostess benefits.  Everyone who places at least a $25 order will be put in the drawing.  The winner will receive at least $25 of free stuff, but could be more depending on how many people participate Saturday!
When you go to my online store, you will put in this hostess code.
When you have something in your shopping cart, there will be a blank at the bottom left asking for this code.  If you don't use this code, I can't include you in the drawing.  The ordering starts now and will close at 7pm Saturday the 1st.

Fancy Favor Box Die

If you enjoy making treats for teachers, friends, classmates, etc,  you must get the fancy favors die before it retires in a week.  Here is one treat box I made for my daughter's music teacher.  I used the same masking technique here as I did with the butterfly last week.  Click here to see that video.  Instead of a background stamp, I used our music note stampin around wheel.

Stamp Set: Music note wheel
Paper: White, calypso coral
Ink: Baja breeze, island indigo
Tools: Big Shot, fancy favors die, butterfly punch, 1" circle punch, blossoms punch
Accessories: soda pop top, SAB buttons, calypso coral bakers twine, basic pearls

MDS gift ideas

My sweet baby girl just turned 3 this week and she is in love with Minnie Mouse.  You saw the invitation I created with MDS.  Here is one of the gifts I made.

It's the same Minnie Mouse from her invitation just using circle punch images.  The white highlighting is just a white circle underneath the black ones.  I used the mirror image option so I could print it on an iron on sheet.  The hat has the butterfly punch filled with Melon Mambo DSP and a "K" in cursive on the bottom.  TA-DA!!

She loved it!!  I love little girl birthdays!

More Digital vs. Paper Butterflies

FYI...There are 2 cards and 2 videos in this post :)

I'm sitting here with my Mom and Dad who came to visit me this weekend.  I have been biting at the bit to teach her about My Digital Studio.  So, I just showed her how to take this paper butterfly card and do the same thing digitally.  She says she was very impressed.  She's an effervescer by nature.  We pop like soda, she and I :)

Just on another note, my dear stamping friend, Moe, accosted me the other day very concerned that I was going digital.  I had to admit that I was getting a little wrapped up in it.  It's been around for years so why I'm picking now to get all pumped about it, not quite sure.  Anyway, I was reminded that the majority of my stamp circle is still paper and ink.  I usually get down on SU! this time of year just waiting for the new products to come out.  I need new stuff.  Finally got my catalog this week and, Moe, I am so excited to start paper crafting again.  I've seen some really pretty stuff and can't wait to show it to you.  I digress...

Here is what I wanted to show you today.
Stamp Set: En Francais
Paper: White, Real Red
Ink: Baja Breeze, Island Indigo
Tools: Owl punch (heart), Big Shot, Beautiful Wings die
Accessories: Basic pearls

I posted this card several weeks ago.  It was featured by the home office.  It's called Reverse Masking and here is the video again to show you how to do it.

So, now that you are all educated about Reverse Masking, here is my digital take on this same card.

In MDS, the butterfly image is listed under punches.  Making this card was much easier digitally, but in my opinion, not as affective.  Now, I do not know how to mask using MDS yet, but I do know how to do something really cool.    It's called "attach to shape".  I had my mom recite one of her favorite hymns and I put it into a textbox.  Then, I attached it to the butterfly punch.  I'll dig around and see if I can figure out how to get the same effect as the paper masking.  This was the best I could do with the knowledge I have right now.  I did add a blue mat around it just so it could be seen better on this white background.

Be sure to check out this Video from Heather Summers on how to do this technique on MDS.  Visit her blog, she is a great resource for MDS techniques.

Sweet Threads Cross Stitch Kit

I have very fond memories of my Mimi teaching me how to cross stitch.  I got really good at it, but if you share the love of this past time with me, you remember those moments when you got off by 1 X, but didn't realize it till you changed colors several hours later :)  Then you had to take out lots of hours of your work. run on sentence there.  I think every young lady should have to learn how to cross stitch.  I tried to have a mom and me class, but couldn't get the interest.  I used to cross stitch for hours on long car trips to Gram's house.  With the technology explosion, cross stitching has really taken a backseat to everything.  If you'd like to join with me in my efforts to bring cross stitching back, get our Sweet Threads Bundle before it retires at the end of the month.  If you don't have a young lady in your life, get one of these, prop the lazy boy up and enjoy the memories of your childhood.

Wanting to use your Stampin' Up! stash to make a little extra money? Go Digital!

I have really enjoyed playing around with MDS creating invitations for different events.  Invitation services are pretty expensive.  Can you imagine having access to incredible digital images and high quality printing services literally at your fingertips?  You could start a side business with a few advertisements on Facebook :)  Here are 2 invites I've worked on the past few weeks.

This was the invite I made for my Father-in-Law.  It's considered a hybrid project since I added the brad and the ribbon after SU! mailed me the print portion.  I purchased the Hello, Doily digital image and cropped it to where I wanted it.  It's a good compromise b/t paper and digital.  The brad had no problem going through the mail.  Envelopes are included with our printing services.

This is my daughter's birthday invitation.  It was a little harder than the wedding one.  I have been watching as many MDS tutorials as I can.  I created this Minnie mouse using layered circle punches and the butterfly punch for her bow.  Not to different from paper punch art.  Whatever fonts you already have on your computer will automatically appear in your MDS.  I searched for a free Disney World Font and used it with this Minnie theme.  This was a postcard instead of a card that opens.  Here is the back.
Do you see the $$$ possibilities with this software?  I know I'm going to try to make a little extra.

A paper swallotail vs. A digital swallowtail

Over the last few weeks, I have added several new customers to my stampin' world.  These women are my digital girls.  So, how do I keep everyone happy and not neglect anyone :)?  Double the duty...kinda.  Here is a card we made at my swallowtail card class a few months ago and then check out  the digital version.

Stamp: Vintage Verses, Swallowtail
Paper: Crumb Cake, Always Artichoke, White
Ink: Versamark
Tools: Curly Label punch, heat tool
Accessories: White embossing powder

Supplies:  Did you know that when you finish a project in MDS, you can go to the top, click project, check project and then supply list.  This is how it looks.

I wanted to do something a little different with the digital card.  In the beginning, I made it to look identical to the paper version.  But I thought, "What advantage do I have using MDS on this card versus the paper?"  I could make the greeting larger and shadowed.  I like the outcome.  I added some shadowing to those words so it wouldn't blend into the white of the swallowtail.  Benefits of having a paper cutter?  I could stamp the butterfly image and then cut it to the size I wanted.  With the digital, I had to create little pieces of white and crumb to cover up the swallowtail that was running off the side.  There must be an easier way.  Anyone know how?

Please leave a comment letting me know which version you like better.

Craft Room Organization

I've been itching to try a few new things in my craft room.  I finally took the plunge and bought the supplies.

This was the screen door that was on our porch when we moved in.  At the bottom is a doggy door, but we don't have a doggy.  I needed more room to put announcements and card samples.  I hung the door on the wall and traced the inside edges with a pencil.  Then I painted it with a magnetic primer and then with chalkboard paint.  You can't tell in this picture, but the chalkboard is coffee color instead of black.  Cool, huh?  I've enjoyed it a lot.  I'm using chalk markers that I got at michaels.  No chalk mess.

It's fun to be able to display a project and then tell a little about it in writing.

MDS Display

So, I'm getting geared up to start some MDS technique classes this summer and needed a place to display the types of print projects.  I got this new piece of furniture from my FIL who is moving.  I think it works perfectly!
I ordered the MDS sample kit from SU!.  Everything fits great!
Hey Demos...did you know you could buy a 10 pack of MDS trial disks?  It's in the supply list.  I have those right next to a printed version of all the digital content found on that disk.  If you'd like to see that content, click here.  If you'd like to see the content in the full software, click here.

I'm proud of my display.  Now I just have to keep my 3 year old from messing it up :)
